We Care                        We Listen                       We Empower

At human repair shop, we know that Physiotherapy and Pilates plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation process for individuals undergoing pre and post-surgical procedures. These interventions encompass a diverse range of procedures including but not limited to hip, knee and shoulder replacements, as well as spinal surgeries.

Physiotherapy and Pilates exercises are designed to help you regain your mobility, strength, and functionality, as well as manage pain effectively. This approach aims to optimise your physical condition prior to surgery, which can lead to several benefits post surgery.

At the human repair shop we are here to support you in pre and post surgical journeys in more ways than one. Not only from a physical perspective, but our physiotherapists can help you develop coping strategies, reduce anxiety, and mentally prepare for the upcoming procedure, leading to an improved overall experience.

Pre-Surgical Physiotherapy Benefits

Education and Preparation:

We understand that you will have many questions before going in for a surgical procedure. At human repair shop our physiotherapists will give you a better understanding of the pre surgical process and what to expect during the recovery period. Also we will engage with your surgeon and GP to get a better understanding of your procedure. With your physiotherapist, you will explore your post surgery goals, expectations and lifestyle choices to ensure a better outcome.

Individualised Treatment Plans:

We understand that we are all a bit different. Our pre and  post-surgical physiotherapy treatment plans are tailored to each patient’s specific needs, taking into account factors such as the type of surgery, the patient’s overall health, and any pre-existing conditions. Our  approach ensures that your rehabilitation process is safe and effective.

Strengthening and Conditioning:

Our physiotherapy led pre-surgical Pilates exercises will help you strengthen the muscles around the affected joint, which can facilitate a smoother and faster recovery post-surgery. Improved muscle strength can also enhance overall joint stability, reducing the risk of complications during and after the operation.

Pain Management:

Our physiotherapist can assist you in managing pre-existing pain before surgery through various modalities such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and electrical stimulation techniques. This can improve your comfort level before entering surgery.

Post-Surgical Physiotherapy Benefits

Accelerated Recovery:

Physiotherapy treatment is proven in promoting faster recovery by reducing inflammation, increasing blood circulation, and preventing stiffness in the joint. This can improve your quality of life and reduce the disruption caused by the surgical procedure.

Individualised Treatment Plans:

We understand that we are all a bit different and that not all surgical procedures are the same. In collaboration with your surgeon our post-surgical physiotherapy treatment plans are tailored to your specific needs, taking into account factors such as the type of surgery, your overall health, and any pre-existing conditions. Our  approach ensures that your rehabilitation process is safe and effective.

Preventing Complications

At human repair shop our physiotherapy helps identify and address potential complications such as joint stiffness, muscle weakness, and improper gait patterns, reducing the risk of post-surgical complications and improving long-term outcomes.

Strengthening and Muscle Function:

We know at the human repair shop that surgery and subsequent immobility can lead to muscle weakness and atrophy. Our post-surgical physiotherapy led Pilates incorporates strength training exercises to help rebuild and regain muscle strength, which is crucial for functional independence.

Improving Quality of Life:

By restoring mobility and functionality in pain management, physiotherapy can significantly enhance the patient’s quality of life. Our physiotherapist employs various pain management techniques, such as heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), to alleviate pain and discomfort during the recovery process.

I was there today for a running technique assessment. Orla was so thorough and knowledgeable in her ability to diagnose my issues and show me the exercises to fix it. She and Tony didn't try to upsell me, they didn't need to Their professionalism and kindness is enough, they clearly love what they do, and want their clients to be healthy and happy. 5 stars!

Treatment at The Human Repair Shop is commendable. Tony and Orla always have a wide smile to greet their patients, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. After detailed & appropriate questioning, physio Orla Cunningham targets each problem with obvious professionalism. Her techniques surely improve the patient's blood circulation which in turn reduce muscle tension and general fatigue. Suggested exercises are an integral part of her approach. You invariably leave the Human Repair Shop feeling refreshed and rejuvenated ... and receive a warm "Goodbye".

Orla & Tony have created a charming and relaxing physio/pilates/wellness studio. I had met Orla previously in a physio capacity and she is outstanding. Orla mixes it up in the Pilates classes so you never get bored. I feel fantastic after a class. Would highly recommend Human Repair Shop.

I feel exceptionally fortunate to have found Orla to help me recover from a trimalleolar ankle fracture. I was 6 months pregnant when I broke my ankle and didn't realise how much I needed a physio who was not only clinically exceptional but also incredibly thoughtful, considerate and professional. Orla and Tony have created a brilliant community and genuinely care for their clients, I cannot recommend the Human Repair Shop more highly.
